Hello! My name is Monica and I am currently teaching at Anqing Foreign Language school. I have lived in Anqing for the past two and a half years with my husband and two children. Moving to China was definitely a big change! There were many changes to get used to particularly the language and food! Everyone has always been very welcoming and hospitable and in the past two years, we have seen big changes in Anqing in particular, the opening of several new shopping malls, recreation centres and better fast train and air links to major cities in China making travel more accessible!
Prior to moving to China, my family and I lived in England. I worked as a therapy radiographer and then completed my TEFL training in the UK to prepare me to teach English in China. This past year has been a big learning year for me as it is my first time teaching English to primary aged children. I have found the classes a lot of fun! The students are very motivated and love to participate in the games and songs I prepare for them! It has been fantastic seeing them stop me when they see me and hold simple conversations or remember some words that we have learned together! I enjoy preparing their classes and getting props and activities ready to make their classes interesting! For many of the students, it is their first time to have regular interaction with a native English speaker. It has been wonderful watching their progress since the beginning of the term.
Anqing Foreign Language school provides many opportunities to learn from other teachers so the whole experience has helped me to develop myself as an EFL teacher as well as to understand the learners’ needs and learning styles.
